Maayan Zilberman was born on a Kibbutz in Israel then grew up  in Vancouver, Canada. She graduated from The School of Visual Arts in New York City with a degree in Sculpture followed by a residency at the Ratti Foundation in Como, Italy. From 2001 - 2014 Maayan worked as a Creative Director and Designer in the lingerie industry, founding designer intimates line The Lake & Stars in 2007, followed by a redesign of American cult brand Fredericks of Hollywood. In Spring 2014 Maayan decided to step away from the industry to focus on her art practice, giving her the opportunity to experiment with ephemeral materials in the studio again.

In November 2015, Maayan founded candy brand Sweet Saba in New York City with a shop in the Meatpacking District, then created pop up shops in Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles. Sweet Saba is a multidisciplinary candy concept with projects focusing on experiential installations and poetic discourse. Sweet Saba will relaunch in 2024 with a new commercial collection of edibles artwork available online and by special order.
